Once upon a time, there was a girl who loved a boy, and this boy gave her the world.
What a great final book of 2020. One More Round is described as a fun and flirty novella, and while I would agree with that overall, it had some emotional parts. Simon and Caroline is a couple I've loved from the moment I met them over 8 years ago when I first read Wallbanger. I was so happy to get more of their story. I highly recommend this one for all fans of the series.

Simon and Caroline are still deeply in love and though they may be living the dream, this is the one part of their life that isn't going to plan. But you can't exactly plan this kind of thing, and they have no idea what they're in for.
This book is equal parts funny and heart-achingly emotional, making me laugh out loud and then hitting me right in the feels. I adored being back with Simon and Caroline, seeing them so happy and so very much in love. Their relationship is the kind that people dream about, solid and committed, full of teasing, banter and jokes, and they are still as hot for each other as they were when they met. Watching them enter this next stage in their relationship is just amazing and I adored every moment of it.

It's the story I didn't even know I wanted for Simon and Caroline, but let's face it, I'll read anything with these two in it. The rest of the Cocktail crew are all a part of the story, which was lots of fun, and we even get some Simon POV! And to top off it all off, there's even an epilogue from Clive the cat. So. Much. Win!
The audiobook is fantastic, narrated by C.J. Bloom and Gregory Salinas. It's a really quick read, coming in at just under three hours, and I highly recommend listening to this one (ebook comes out in December 2020). I'm actually going to do another listen now, it's that good!

I just love Simon and Caroline and I was thrilled to get another story about them. Once I started reading and found out what it was about, I loved it even more! (And bonus points that it helped Alice Clayton to write it.)
Not everything has been roses for Simon and Caroline. One subject has been hard and it's huge. I was shocked how they decided to handle it but luckily, fate or whatever had other plans.

"One More Round" seems to be taking place at least 5 years or so (maybe?) from the last novella in the series, Last Call. Caroline and Simon are off to visit her friend and mentor overseas. We find out that Caroline and Simon have dealt with miscarriages throughout their marriage and have not had a child at this time. They both want a family, but realize that is unlikely to happen and Simon gets a vasectomy. Their professional lives are going great though and they have a gorgeous house to enjoy in California. Their lives change though due to a "twist" and the novella is just Caroline and Simon being themselves.
I have to say that this book seems weird to me. We don't get that many sex scenes between Caroline and Simon. We hear that they are still going strong in the bedroom department, and there are a lot of morning after discussions and I think one time where we read about her doing something to Simon in the woods (my brain is foggy). I have to say that was a disappointment. The one thing that this series had going for it was the hot sex scenes between Caroline and Simon.
Caroline's friendships seem odd in this one too. She's finally asking one of her friends why she and her husband don't have kids? Really? Also one of the girl's husbands (I can't recall) seems like a moron.
The writing just didn't grab me like it did in other books and the flow was weird. I think that Clayton should have just done a full blown novel so there would have been zero need to do the time jumps. I think doing that took away from a lot of the emotional heft long-time readers should have experienced while reading this one.

We eventually learned about One More Round, an audible original was being released. For those who don't like audiobooks, it will soon be released in eBook form. This is a Simon and Caroline story which made her fans lose their minds to get more story about their favorite Wallbangers. I am very sorry to say that I found the whole story sad and depressing and if you have ever had a hard time conceiving or if you have lost a baby, this book will not take you to a good place. I was blessed and did not have any issues personally, but this book made sure I knew what it would feel like if I had. Maybe I should say that this novella was so well written that I was overwhelmed by Caroline's sadness over the fact that she and Simon had lost more than one pregnancy that they were now to the point that Simon got a vasectomy so they didn't risk going through that all again. As we start this story, Caroline and Simon are visiting their best friends and Caroline's business is booming and she has a spotlight on a local new show each week about home decorating. The story they are not telling their friends is that just before Simon's vasectomy or maybe its a failed vasectomy, Caroline is once again pregnant. But instead of being joyous, Caroline is overwhelmed with fear of losing yet another baby. She doesn't want to share their news with anyone. She doesn't want to get excited yet again. It is all very emotional and draining to listen to her drag out her concerns and fears. Simon wants to share the news but she is so afraid that she won't tell them. Once she can no longer hide the pregnancy and Caroline, Simon and their friends are hopefully optimistic that she will take this baby full-term, and that story gets a tiny bit less dreary especially when she finds out that she is having triplets, but Caroline is still a high-risk pregnancy so we wait to see if bad things will still happen. Here is where I start to lose it because they both agree that Simon should go off to this remote area of the world before the baby arrives because he wants to finish this series of shots that he is working on being that he is a world famous photographer. Caroline is a high risk pregnancy! She is almost due and Simon is sailing to some remote part of the world? Even if she and the babies weren't at risk, who does that? Being nine months pregnant is hard enough, but doing it alone while he's traveling the world somewhere where he will be out of touch when his wife could give birth at any moment? Doing that makes Simon a selfish, stupid asshat. Of course, that sets up Simon to be racing to Caroline's side, just like Caroline raced to Simon's side in Rusty Nailed. For this chapter, the narration switches over to Simon who is not only begging the universe to let his wife and children live, and how much it was like the time he found out his parents were killed, which now makes the whole story depressing again but from Simon's POV. He also spends a lot of internal time reminiscing about how great his wife's tits are and when he first saw her in that pink nightie and how he could barely look away from those tits. Really? I had been so excited to revisit with Simon and Caroline but this story was so overwhelmingly sad and gloomy it was hard to keep listening to it. Kudos for Alice Clayton for being able to write a story that would work my emotions so thoroughly. I just wish she would have given us another great laugh, maybe Simon and Caroline as parents trying to find the time and energy for more wallbanging, rather than an heartbreaking story of their desperation not to lose another baby. I love how much these two love each other it is so clear to see. You can't help but fall even more in love with these characters.
Caroline really got to my heart strings in this, you feel her pain, her panic and her joy.
Simon is so wonderful and again you feel all his emotion especially on that one chapter shudders it was intense.
Great narration 100% would recommend this series.

UNTIL she decided to randomly drop this cute novella this the only authors who deserve any rights are the ones who casually drop a novella out of nowhere for their couple even though that couple's story has been complete for yearS now like they haven't let go of their characters just like us: we can see that & we appreciate that.

120 pages packed full of perfection! One More Round is like one big nuanced and completely satisfying epilogue to Caroline and Simon's love story. It's been at least five years since I read the books that made me a fan so some of the details were fuzzy, but this novella does a superb job interweaving key highlights without it sounding like mundane exposition.I'd forgotten just how funny these characters — and Alice Clayton's writing — are. I laughed and smiled throughout, but I was pleasantly surprised by the number of tender moments. The story is told almost entirely from Caroline's perspective. In fact, Simon only has one chapter but I suggest you break out the tissues because it wrecked me in the most heartwarming way. Alice Clayton really outdoes herself. Of course, Clive the cat gets the final say and it's a fun and happy ending to a delightful love story.

This is a sexy, funny and surprisingly emotional story. Simon and Caroline have a perfect relationship yet are struggling with pregnancy issues. Even with the all witty banter and steamy times, their struggles make this more that just your usual romantic comedy, and add a layer of authenticity to their relationship.
I also listened to the audiobook and loved it. The fabulous CJ Bloom narrates and the story is an easy audiobook to finish in a just a few hours.
I enjoyed this lovely and smart romantic novella, and hope that Alice Clayton comes back for more soon! If you're a fan of the Cocktail series, then you will enjoy this trip back with some of your favorite characters.

OMG, I think I'm going to cry. I was perusing through my "read" shelf the other day and I saw that Alice Clayton had a new novella and I was so excited. I've fallen out of love with contemporary books, but I think I'm going to give them another try some time.

This was so lovely, I can't tell you how much I loved this novella. I loved Caroline and Simon since reading Wallbanger (I never laughed so much with a book before). Their personalities are absolutely hilarious and they make the loveliest couple ever. I would love to have a friend like Caroline, she's absolutely amazing.
First, I have to say that this novella talks about miscarriages, so be aware of that. Caroline not wanting to tell her friends that (view spoiler)[she was pregnant a fifth time and it looked like it could be a full term pregnancy (hide spoiler)] was sad, but also very understandable. She didn't want to get her hopes high and I completely understood that. Simon was there for her like a champ and I couldn't love him more.
But, obviously, Clive the cat steals the show. I love him and his harem and it makes me wonder sometimes if my cats think about me the same way he thinks about Caroline and Simon. His POVs are amazing.

Wallbanger was one of the first romance books I read, post FSOG, and to this day, 7+ years later, it remains one of my favorites. And while that book had a good deal of humor, it was not as evident in this novella that highlighted Catherine and Simon's struggles with fertility. No, this book isn't sad in anyway, but for any person who has gone thru this same struggle, their highs and lows will likely be relatable and emotional.I relished this time to reconnect with this couple. Their lives have changed over the years, but the love they built remains as strong as ever. And a bonus, Clive returns with an epilogue to leave you smiling. If you are a fan of this series, this was a sweet little treat.

ONE MORE ROUND was simply delightful. I actually did a reread of the entire Cocktail series over Quarantine this past summer and fell in love with Simon and Caroline all over again. Little did I know that Alice Clayton was working on something new to take us back to San Francisco/Sausalito to this magical world where Caroline, Simon, Jillian, Benjamin, and the rest of the crew reside.
